On Earth
On the planet Earth in the year 2105, the human race exits its home planet, which is covered in trash and can no longer sustain life. Waste compacting robots, clean the planet while the humans continue life in space. Eventually, all the robots die due to wear and tear, except for one robot, WALL-E, who has chosen his own destiny by developing a conscience. Unlike the other robots, who stuck to one task, WALL-E makes friends with insects, collects trinkets, and is curious.
700 years later EVE, a robot from the Axiom stratoliner, is sent to Earth to look for plant life. She meets WALL-E and grows close with him. One day she spots one of WALL-E's knick-knacks: a single budding plant. She immediately stores it and waits for retrieval. When the retrieval ship arrives, WALL-E opts to join her by clinging to the side of the rocket.

On The Axiom
WALL-E enters the Axiom, and sees the new human society on the ship. WALL-E notices that human lives have no uniqueness and that no one chooses to do anything different from what they do everyday. Meanwhile, the captain of the ship, McCrea, asks EVE for her plant. The plant must be placed into the ship's computer so that the ship and its autopilot, Auto, know that it is possible to return to Earth and start life over again.
Everyone is shocked when it is discovered that EVE does not have the plant with her. Auto has stolen the plant from EVE and orders GO-4 to destroy it secretly. Auto is following directive A113, a secrete mandate requiring him to keep humans in space and make sure humans never return to Earth. Auto was trained to believe Earth would never reach life-sustaining levels again, and stages a mutiny against Captain McCrea.
WALL-E and EVE battle Auto and his police force to recover the plant and place it in the ship's plant detector. Eventually, Captain McCrea deceives and defeats Auto, and sets a course for home. But WALL-E is badly damaged in the process. When the ship docks on Earth, EVE rushes to WALL-E's shelter and finds WALL-E's spare parts. WALL-E is fixed, but no longer has a personality. EVE, though a robot, shows her love for WALL-E, sparking the WALL-E into remembering how a robot can have a personality.
